How do I change graphics and colors on my printed work orders?

The graphic in the upper left is kept in a file called InvoiceGraphic.jpg. This file resides in the folder Program Files\MotivePower3\BackThisUp\Graphics (or Program Files\MotivePower2\BackThisUp\Graphics if you run Motive Power 3.0). Motive Power will print this file on the upper left of your printed work orders.

The InvoiceGraphic.jpg that ships with Motive Power is 720 dots wide by 491 dots high with a resolution of 300 dots per inch. In addition to jpg files, Motive Power supports gif and bmp files. Motive Power allows a graphic that fills up to 30% of the page width (not including margins). It will automatically scale the height of the graphic to match the height of the heading up until the width of the graphic reaches 30% of the width of the page.

You can put in a graphic of your own choice. Your graphic file must be in jpg, gif, or bmp format. You must call your file InvoiceGraphic.jpg, InvoiceGraphic, gif, or InvoiceGraphic.bmp. Before changing this file, rename the existing file to InvoiceGraphic.org so that you can go back to it if you new file is not satisfactory. Then copy your new file into the same folder.

Colors in your company name and slogan are set inside Motive Power. Go to Settings | Invoicing | Shop Heading and highlight the characters that you want in a different color. Click the color wheel icon and select the new color. That's all there is to it.

I get a message "unable to find page break" when I try to print a multi-page invoice. What should I do?

A few shops have had this problem after making changes to the shop information that prints at the top of each estimate, work order and invoice. Go to Settings | Invoicing | Shop Heading. Position the cursor after the last visible character. Press the backspace key until the cursor covers the last letter or number displayed. Press the right arrow key once. Press Enter twice. Hold down the delete key for 20 seconds, long enough to insure that any non-printable characters or commands are gone. Setting fonts, colors or centering on the blank space after the last character will cause this error at print time.

The overall totals aren't printing on my tickets. What should I do?

Go to Settings | Invoicing | Slogans, and make sure either both boxes contain something or both boxes are blank. One of your slogans is probably blank. Note: changing a slogan affects estimates, work orders, and invoices printed from now on. It does not affect estimates printed or invoices finalized in the past.

I'm having a hard time getting address labels to print in Word. What should I do?

To make label printing easier go to Avery.com and download the Avery Add-On for Word. It will help you by making it simpler to format the address correctly. You can get the names and addresses you want by using the main Customer Search to select the right ones. Next click on Export and click on the Customer mailing info selector and save the Excel worksheet for use with Word. You can also use the Word mail merge utility to get to the Motive Power customer table directly. Details are in the built in Help system.
